I Am Here, With You
The greatest artists never truly leave. They remain — in their music, paintings, letters. Their emotions, their searching, their fragility and greatness speak to us as if they were still here.
In this performance, two different worlds meet — Slawomir Mrożek’s The Widows and Stasys Yla’s M.K. Čiurlionis: The Creator and the Man. These two plays come together deliberately. They contrast a superficial, consumerist view of love and life with a true, deeply felt love of the creator and human being. The play asks: what remains of us when we truly love and create?
The Widows — women who have lost their husbands — speak empty words. Instead of grief or remembrance, they chatter flippantly. They mock, fantasize about romantic movie scenes, speak of loves they never knew. They do not mourn, they learn nothing from loss. Even while their husbands were alive, they were unfaithful; and after their deaths, they do not grieve but continue spinning cheap, Hollywood-style illusions of love without understanding what love truly means.

Into this absurd, grotesque atmosphere enters the voice of a waiter. He is puzzled by the widows’ emptiness and superficiality, and he asks: why do they dream of distant heroes when right here, in their own land, we have a creator like Čiurlionis? Whose love — for nature, for art, for humanity — was pure and powerful.
The waiter takes the audience into Čiurlionis’s life. His life and letters to Sofija are transparent, emotional, profound. He loves, he creates, he searches for meaning. His words and works become a true testament to love.
And isn’t it the same feeling we experience today, when we listen to his music or gaze upon his paintings? He quietly says: ‘I am here, with you.’
