The Love of Don Perlimplín
Don Perlimplín lives with his maid, Marcolfa, who persuades him to marry the much younger Belisa. After the wedding, Don Perlimplín discovers that Belisa is seeing five different men. She falls in love with one of them and cannot imagine her life without him. Yet Don Perlimplín, experienced and insightful, senses everything. Though his honor has been deeply wounded, he remains calm. Marcolfa is shocked by her master's composure. Don Perlimplín insists that Belisa has the right to discover the true meaning of love.
Why does Don Perlimplín accept his wife’s infidelity? What meaning of love is he speaking about?
He neither judges Belisa nor punishes her—instead, he supports her and even allows her to meet her new lover. But the constant anxiety, inner tension, and emotional torment eventually drive Don Perlimplín into madness.
This performance reveals the hidden, the unspoken, and the suppressed. These are the secrets that linger in our everyday lives—until, one day, they lead us to the brink of insanity.
